My journey to the UK began in 2019, when I moved from a small town in Brazil to Oxford. Arriving with little knowledge of English, I faced both a language barrier and a significant cultural adjustment. Over time, I developed my language skills and discovered a deep interest in communication, which ultimately led me to pursue journalism.
At university, I was honoured to be selected as an RTS Scholar, becoming part of the Royal Television Society. This recognition felt especially meaningful given the challenges I had overcome as an immigrant, and it reinforced my commitment to developing my voice within the industry.
Through my journalism degree, I have found a purpose in contributing to my community and amplifying underrepresented voices. My work is driven by a passion for telling the stories of those who are often overlooked or unheard. My own experience of navigating a new country without fluency in its language showed me the power of communication, and it continues to shape my mission: to ensure that people are able to express themselves and be recognised for their perspectives, regardless of the language they speak.
As part of this journey, I interned at Radio Mais Brazil, a station dedicated to connecting Brazilian communities abroad. This experience allowed me to combine my cultural background with my commitment to impactful storytelling. My work focuses on celebrating diverse cultures while also addressing important social issues.
